Loretta Claiborne, subject of In Her Stride from
the WorldScapes literacy series
for grades 3–6, recently shared her inspiring
life story with a crowd of educators at the
2005 Annual IRA Convention in San Antonio,
Texas. The group of 100+ teachers and administrators
from across the country was captivated by Claiborne’s
account of being born partially blind and mildly
retarded, and overcoming adversity to become
a celebrated Special Olympian and motivational
speaker.
