VERNON HILLS, Ill.March 31, 2006ETA/Cuisenaire® announced today a call for entries for its 3rd annual Magnificent Classroom Makeover Contest.  The contest, for PreK-6 teachers, will award one grand prize: a classroom makeover that includes more than $10,000 worth of educational resources for literacy instruction and professional development led by author/expert Miriam P. "Year after year I look forward to this contest. It provides me with a wonderful opportunity to meet and work with some of the finest teachers in the country," said Trehearne, internationally known for her series of practical professional development resource books, including the new Comprehensive Literacy Resource for Grades 3-6 Teachers, that link the latest research and assessment to practical classroom instruction. "These teachers recognize that literacy is the foundation of children’s future success not only in school but in life – and they’re open to new teaching ideas and methods."

The Magnificent Classroom Makeover grand prize package includes:

  1. Delivery, set-up and implementation of hundreds of ETA/Cuisenaire leveled books, content-area materials, manipulatives, software, and teacher support directly related to the grade level of the winning entry.
  2. Copy of the grade-level appropriate Comprehensive Literacy Resource book by Trehearne.
  3. Full day of professional development for the winning school or district’s early literacy teachers led by Trehearne.

Two runners-up will also receive prizes.  The first runner-up will receive a $1,000 ETA/Cuisenaire gift certificate, a copy of the Comprehensive Literacy Resource by Trehearne appropriate for the teacher’s grade level, and a half-day of professional development for all of his/her school’s literacy teachers.  The second runner-up will receive a $500 gift certificate from ETA/Cuisenaire and a copy of Trehearne’s book.

"We're committed to providing a wide range of supplemental resources to help all literacy educators close the achievement gap before it starts," said Dennis Goldman, president, ETA/Cuisenaire. "By transforming a classroom-in-need into a literacy-rich environment, we can have a profound impact not only on the winning teacher’s life, but the lives of his or her students."
