ETA/Cuisenaire Introduces Algeblocks® For Middle School!
VERNON HILLS, IL, April 7, 2000November 1, 2001-ETA/Cuisenaire® has introduced a new Algeblocks program for middle school students. This hands-on program uses a three-dimensional area model, 10 color-related plastic blocks representing variables and units (1, x, x2, x3, y, y2, y3, x2y, and xy2) and a binder with reproducible activities, to introduce middle school students to basic algebraic concepts.
The new Algeblocks for middle school program is designed to motivate students by making many of the fundamentals of algebra easier to understand. Students who are confused by the traditional presentation of the subject will benefit from the hands-on approach. The activities in the Algeblocks for Middle School binder are clearly organized, and teachers are provided with step-by-step lesson plans, which make this program easy to implement with any text or course of study. It can also be used as a stand-alone program to introduce students to basic algebraic skills.
The Algeblocks model is the preferred hands-on algebra manipulative for classrooms throughout the country because it effectively meets the needs of both educators and students. According to John Thomson, Director of Mathematics at ETA/Cuisenaire, "Algeblocks has met with great success in many big city school systems, including Detroit, Los Angeles, Dade County and Nashville. Virginia has adopted this program and placed it in every high school in the state. Columbus, Ohio has already placed the new product in its middle schools, and the new Algeblocks for middle school will certainly provide for the growing demand for an algebra manipulative at this grade level."
ETA/Cuisenaire is widely recognized as one of the pioneers in manipulatives-based education and supplemental learning materials. With over 7,000 products, many of which are developed and manufactured exclusively by ETA/Cuisenaire, their hands-on materials cover mathematics and science for grades K-12 and reading/language arts for grades K-6.
