Vernon Hills, IL—ETA/Cuisenaire announced today that its Comprehensive
Literacy Resource for Grades 1-2 Teachers authored by Miriam P.
Trehearne was recently named The Distinguished Achievement Award in
the category of Professional Development from The Association of Educational
Publishers. This is the highest honor in this popular category.
Miriam Trehearne—a 30-year veteran educator and frequent speaker
at national conferences such as the International Reading Association
Annual Convention and the Reading Recovery National Conference—takes
the latest research from leading literacy authorities such as Catherine
Snow, Donald Richgels, and Nell Duke and combines it with practical teaching
tips and instructional strategies in this award-winning teacher reference
book.
Content is well-aligned to major core reading programs and topics covered
are based on significant areas of focus determined by the National Reading
Panel (NRP). Chapters include Word Work and Spelling, The Reading –Writing
Connection, Using Technology as a Tool for Literacy Learning, Intervention
for Children at Risk, and many more. Also included are blackline masters,
observation checklists and other reproducible resources for the teacher.
"I am honored that the Comprehensive Literacy Resource for
Grades 1-2 Teachers, has been chosen from among so many wonderful
books, as the AEP Professional Development Book for 2006," said
Miriam Trehearne.
"It is very rewarding that so many teachers in the trenches
find the Comprehensive Literacy Resource booksso very user friendly
because this was my goal," she continued. "The books are written
by teachers for teachers. They share the what, the how and why (research
base) of teaching literacy. Teachers need to know it all."
"We’re proud and not at all surprised by this award," adds
Dennis Goldman, president of ETA/Cuisenaire. "We have hundreds of
testimonials from teachers across the country praising Ms. Trehearne for
providing such a comprehensive and usable resource that gives them exactly
what they need to ensure literacy success for all their students."
The Comprehensive Literacy Resource for Grades 1-2 Teachers is
part of a four-book series by Trehearne that spans PreK-Grade 6. More
information, including a sample chapter from the award-winning book is
available at www.etacuisenaire.com and www.miriamtrehearne.com.
Ms. Trehearne is also the author of a new product for Grades K-2 called CenterStage
Literacy. Based on the same current, leading research
as the Comprehensive Literacy Resource book series, the hands-on
activities in these centers promote guided practice of literacy skills
already introduced by the teacher. According to Ms. Trehearne, these
all-inclusive centers provide an answer to the famous teacher question "What
are the other students in my class doing while I am working with a small
group?"
